As part of Norwich Jazz Festival 2026 innate creates founder, broadcaster & curator Amy Nomvula is in conversation with André Marmot, musician and author of ‘Unapologetic Expression: The Inside Story of the UK Jazz Explosion’, published by Faber.

André Marmot explores the new UK. jazz wave, encapsulating its revolutionary spirit and tracing its foundations to the birth of the genre itself. Drawing upon extensive interviews with the likes of Shabaka Hutchings, Nubya Garcia and Moses Boyd to Gilles Peterson, Courtney Pine and Cleveland Watkiss, it captures the radical spirit of a vital musical movement, and places it within the wider context of a divided, postcolonial Britain navigating its identity in a new world order.

This event will take place at The Book Hive. Tickets available here.

Norwich Jazz Festival

The Gary Crosby Sextet presents Mingus Moves

Sunday 26th May || Norwich Arts Centre

Bassist, band leader and co-founder of Tomorrow’s Warriors, Gary Crosby brings together his sextet for a night celebrating the legendary jazz innovator and composer Charles Mingus. An instantly recognisable figure as he played double bass, Mingus was an imposing physical presence on stage. However, it was his skill as a composer that set him apart, bridging the eras of Ellington and Parker and into the free improvisation of the 1960s.

For this special celebration Crosby will lead his sextet through his personal favourite from the Mingus catalogue Mingus Moves alongside other classic compositions.

innate creates founder Amy Nomvula is DJ’ing in support of this event – expect to hear her playing jazz classics alongside some of the UK jazz titans of today.
